Non Govt. Animal Welfare Organizations like Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ (SPCA), ‘People For Animals ‘(PFA). are functioning in UT Chandigarh for the welfare of animals. The Animal Husbandry Department provides financial assistance to these organizations for their smooth functioning.

 IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS / ACTIVITIES

1.SETTING UP OF MODEL MILCH CATTLE CENTRES IN U.T. CHANDIGARH

              To Develop dairy farming in an integrated & scientific manner, the Chandigarh Administration Plans to develop Model Milch Cattle Centres in the outskirts of Chandigarh city.

  

II  BIRD CARE CENTRE AT GOVT. VETERINARY   HOSPITAL   SECTOR –38 CHANDIGARH .

           A “Bird care Centre” is functioning at Govt. Veterinary Hospital , Sector-38, Chandigarh wherein proper shelter, veterinary aid loving care is provided to the injured /sick birds.

III. Free Mass Immunization drive for Animal:-

           Under the Animal Disease Control Programme the Animal Husbandry Department, Chandigarh Admn. has launched a Free Mass Immunization Drive for Animals in  U.T. Chandigarh against Contagious / dreaded animals diseases i.e. Rabies, FMD and HS from January 2004 on wards.

         It is important to add that the department has taken complete control over Rinderpest Diseases of Cattle. It is free from R.P. diseases.

Other Important Achievements/ Activities

 1.

The department runs 14 Veterinary Hospitals / Sub-Centres in 18 villages of U.T. Chandigarh, which is by and large the best Veterinary facility available in the country. In this way, we have one Veterinary Institution for every 2000 livestock.

 2.

Chandigarh is the only unique Territory / State in the country, which is having a separate Pet Clinic exclusively for treatment of pet animals.

 3.

The Veterinary Health cover facilities are not only provided to the livestock of U.T. Chandigarh but also to the large number of animals from the neighbouring States of Punjab & Haryana
